Saints Sign Josh Martin and T.J. Green On The Eve Of Camp

New York Jets

The Saints made a few moves the day before training camp. They signed linebacker Josh Martin and defensive back T.J. Green. In corresponding moves, they waived/injured defensive tackle Kenny Bigelow as well as wide receiver Chad Hansen, per Herbie Teope on Twitter. Moves like these are very common when the start of camp is getting close and should be interesting going forward.

Martin has made a few stops in the league in his first six years. After going undrafted out of Columbia in 2013, he signed with the Kansas City Chiefs. After two seasons, he bounced around with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Indianapolis Colts before landing with the New York Jets in 2015. His best season as far as production was in 2017 where he started nine games and collected 31 tackles and 1.5 sacks. Martin will be looking to earn a spot as a reserve and special teamer.

Green has only been in the league for a couple of seasons out of Clemson. He is a big safety at 6’3″ and has started 11 games with 85 career tackles. However, last year he was on the verge of retirement after being with the Seattle Seahawks citing that he no longer had the desire to play anymore. Now that he has signed with the Saints, we can hope he has found his passion again and will strive to earn a spot as a reserve and major player on special teams. If all else fails, he can hopefully make enough noise to warrant a spot on the practice squad.

The Saints start practice tomorrow at 8:50 a.m. in front a sold out crowd at the Ochsner Sports Performance Center.
