Saints are Back-to-Back Division Champs for the First Time Ever

The black and gold overcame a sluggish start in Tampa Bay to clinch the NFC South for a second consecutive year. It is the first time the Saints have repeated as division champs in their history. Drew Brees and the offense struggled to find rythum scoring only three points in the first half. The defense kept the team in the ballgame harassing Jameis Winston with 4 sacks and 10 qb hits. Cam Jordan is cementing his pro bowl invite but other worthy defenders on this team are Sheldon Rankins, Demario Davis, Marshon Lattimore and Taysom Hill- who had to get the nod on special teams. Hill’s blocked punt energized the entire team, no, the entire whodat nation and was the play that woke the team from its slumber. The Stormin’ Mormon yesterday reminded me of another Saints legend Steve Gleason.

New Orleans has completed job one, repeating as NFC South champs but now are on to the next task, cementing as the possible number one seed in the NFC. The Bears helped out last night besting the LA Rams in Chicago, now the Saints have to finish the mission. First put a stake into the corpse of Cam Newton and the Panthers… Twice. Then, the meat in the Carolina sandwich: the Steelers, who are reeling now and in danger of missing the postseason altogether.

It seems this team can win any way they need to, score 40 or hold an explosive Tampa Bay offense to just 14 points. Back-to-back division crowns is a big deal but this team seems to have much bigger aspirations yet to be realized. There are some warts on the team, the absence of Terron Armstead is a big one and the need for a defense stretching receiver is another but they usually find a way to get it done. Special teams play was the catalyst yesterday what will it be in Carolina Monday? I am not sure but I think on December 17th I will get a belated birthday present… A Monday night win!
