Report: David Onyemata Will Be Suspended For Saints Season Opener

In a tweet by Adam Schefter, which we were able to confirm, David Onyemata has been suspended for one game due to violating the NFL’s substances abuse policy. Onyemata was cited in January where he allegedly had marijuana located in his home. No arrests were made from the situation.

Onyemata has proven to be a key piece to the Saints defensive line, totaling 35 tackles, 4 tackles for loss, and 4.5 sacks in 2018.

Sheldon Rankins will also miss majority of the first half of the season due to a torn Achilles suffered in the playoffs of last season. Saints may have to make adjustments on the defensive line, despite welcoming nose tackle Malcom Brown and rotational piece Mario Edwards. New Orleans will open their season on Monday Night Football facing the Houston Texans.
