Repeat Offenders: Saints OLine Named Built Ford Tough Offensive Line of Week 11

The Saints have done it again, being named the Built Ford Tough Offensive Line of the Week for the second straight week. New Orleans becomes only the second team to repeat the award in consecutive weeks along with the Indianapolis Colts who boast two outstanding rookie linemen.

The Saints take the award this week after not allowing a sack for the fourth straight week against another formidable front seven including Fletcher Cox, Chris Long, Michael Bennett, and Brandon Graham. The New Orleans offensive line was able to hold up despite starting Left Tackle Terron Armstead being out with a pectoral injury, replaced by Jermon Bushrod. They also overcame absences along the interior line for a time as both Andrus Peat and Larry Warford missed minutes in the second half with Cameron Tom and Michael Ola filling in well in their stead.

According to former All-Pro NFL Lineman Shaun O’Hara who ranks the lines weekly, the Saints’ ability to produce in both run and pass blocking was a big part of their being awarded this week, as was Bushrod. O’Hara is an analyst for Pro Football Focus and the NFL Network and had this to say about the Saints front 5,

“The Saints’ offensive line stepped up to the plate against a solid Eagles pass rush, allowing zero sacks and only one quarterback hit. That’s especially impressive considering Jermon Bushrod started at left tackle in place of the injured Terron Armstead — it was Bushrod’s second start of the season. Right guard Larry Warford and right tackle Ryan Ramczyk excelled in both pass pro and run blocking.”

The offensive line paved the way for 173 passing yards and bought Brees enough time to gun for four touchdowns and 363 passing yards, 157 of which came courtesy of rookie WR Tre’Quan Smith.

Another notch in the belt for the New Orleans offensive line, a unit that has continued to be stellar this season. Depth is proving to be a big asset for this team along the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball. There’s no denying though that the offensive line is performing at an elite level.
