An Eye on the Enemy: The Panthers Select Rashaan Gaulden in the Third

This is about where these picks begin to whittle down into depth picks more than impact selections, so I might start lumping these into selections by team and round. But if you like it better individually, I’ll gladly oblige,

With the 22nd pick in the third round the Panthers selected Rashaan Gaulden, Safety out of Tennessee. Gaulden fills the Safety need left behind with the release of Kurt Coleman. He’s a Morgan Burnett-like box player who can also play on the outside and at nickel. He’s an effective tackler and plays faster than his 40 time (4.61).

While he can tackle, he’s not the strongest and plays with a small frame. He will take some time to develop his body into pro-level structure. He’s not the greatest in run coverage in terms of attacking angles, tends to over pursue. He also has some maturity issues, lashing out emotionally in games from time to time.

Not much of an immediate factor here unless he can catch on quicker than anticipated. Brees would attack him when on the field in coverage, I have no doubts. 4/10.
