An Eye on the Enemy: The Bucs Select M.J. Stewart in the Second

With their second pick in the second round, the Bucs selected M.J. Stewart with the 53rd pick in the draft. M.J. Stewart is a CB from UNC. He’s an often penalized and very physical back. You might remember his name from the 2015 incident in which he was arrested along with UCF CB Mike Hughes for a physical altercation.

Stewart is quick, but he tends to get burned if he doesn’t make contact at the line. He’s physical but will likely be more of a nickel corner than anything else. Definitely a player that can make it on the the field in the NFL but will have a lot of concerns when in coverage with major receivers like Michael Thomas.

The Bucs defense definitely needs help in the secondary, but I’m not sure that they found immediate assistance in this pick after having passed on Joshua Jackson, Isaiah Oliver, and Donte Jackson in favor of Ronald Jones. I’m giving this one my first sub-5 of the draft- a 3/10. Go ahead and put him on Cameron Meredith or CGM when he lines up inside. We’ll be looking forward to it.
